We cruised through the streets of Cape Town, feeling all hip and happening - this car is a little head turner! We loved the interior, as it has all the features one could want such as a bluetooth audio system, a keyless starter and a very impressive dashboard layout. This is a great car for navigating through the city streets, nippy and very easy to manoeuvre through any traffic jam!
The performance the of 1,2-litre four cylinder engine was impressive from the get go - dynamite definitely comes in small packages. The power output may be only 61 kW with 113 N.m of torque, but with a kerb mass of just 850 kg, the Ignis is still very fast out of the starting blocks and accelerates when you drop the foot on the pedal.
The Ignis is a semi-crossover style vehicle with a generous ground clearance of 180 mm. It has some sexy black 15-inch alloys wheels and aluminium roof-rails which means you can easily go from "out to town" to "outta town"!
So now we know this car is great in the city, but what we really wanted to know what else the Ignis can do? So we decided to go offroad and test the performance on some gravel, dirt roads and uneven terrain. The car is obviously not a 4x4, but the urban adventurer does like to know that their car can get its tyres a little dirty now and again.
The Ignis handled itself very well when faced with some offroad elements such as tree roots, dongas and speed humps. Cruising at an easy pace it absorbs the bumps gently with its high ground clearance. The Ignis definitely passes the gentle offroad test.
Suzuki yet again proves that it can deliver a car for an all-round fun adventure. The value you get for the price makes it stand out against its competitors. This car really exceeded my expectations, and to be honest, as a Suzuki fan all ready, I am seriously thinking about trading in my wife's Swift for an Ignis.
Ignis, can it Adventure? Yes it can!
The GLX edition (more or less R20 000 more than the standard Ignis) includes the following extras: alloy wheels, LED projector headlamps, daytime running lights, front fog lamps, rear park sensors, folding mirrors, steering wheel audio and phone controls, keyless start, auto air-conditioning, Bluetooth, six speakers, chrome interior elements, driver’s seat height adjustment and the adventurous roof rails.
